Scouting for Food - November 9, 2024

Scouting for Food

Pack 1199 will once again participate in the annual Scouting for Food campaign. Scouting for Food is the National Capital Area Council of Scouting America’s (NCAC’s) largest annual community service project to help feed families in need by collecting non-perishable food and distributing it to local food pantries and food banks throughout the Washington, DC region.

There are two ways to donate:

1.) The door-to-door campaign takes place on two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend – November 2-3, 2024 – Scouts distribute Post-it™ type notes, fliers, or door hangs at homes throughout their communities to inform the households about the food collection drive and provide specific instructions for the collection in each specific neighborhood. On the second weekend – November 9, 2024 – the Scouts return to the homes to collect the bags/boxes of food, and then take the food to their local nonprofit food bank or food pantry.

2.) The virtual campaign gives everyone in the Washington, DC region the opportunity to donate through an online campaign: National Capital Area Council Boy Scouts Scouting for Food Virtual Drive – YouGiveGoods (https://yougivegoods.com/campaign/view/657). Donors can choose the district closest to their home and click on SHOP to purchase the most needed items. A tax receipt will be emailed at check out. All items will be shipped directly to the selected charities.

The goals of the campaign are:

1. Help feed local families in need.

2. Support our mission to inspire young Scouts to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law”.

3. Inspire our Scouts to continue providing community service and to enjoy living the Scout Oath (“…to help other people at all times, …”), Law (loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, cheerful, thrifty) and Slogan (“Do a good turn daily”).

Cub Scout Day Camp - June 24-28, 2024

The 2024 Seneca Cub Scout Day Camp will be held at the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA)-Poolesville Chapter location in Poolesville, Maryland.  This camp offers fishing, archery, BB's, S.T.E.M. stations, Scout skills, and so much more!

Camp Hours: M-F 9 am to 3:30 pm

Cub Scout day camps are organized by the National Capital Area Council, Boy Scouts of America and conducted by volunteers from the local area. Day camps are for registered Cub Scouts entering the 1st-5th grades the following school year. Those entering the 1st grade must be accompanied by an 'adult partner' during their participation. Packs must provide a ratio of 1 adult to 5 youth.

Day camps are conducted by adult volunteer leadership who were trained and certified by BSA's National Camping School. Day camps are also supported by a number of adult and youth staff members. Scouts BSA may also support the day camp program by assisting the Cub Scouts throughout the camp.

A variety of different activities are offered to allow participants to experience outdoor programs for Cub Scouts; many of which are designed to implement the Cub Scout program theme. Adult volunteers make up the nucleus of the day camp staff by volunteering in positions to lead specific programs, support the general operation, or by managing a den of Cub Scouts throughout their time at camp.
