WOW!  What a summer!!!

Once again our pack enjoyed a ton of fun over the summer. A special thanks to all of the parents for volunteering & making this summer great. Below are the activities & some of the key folks involved. Also a big thank you to those not mentioned below that also helped out.

Summer Camps

Here are your Summer Camp Coordinators. Don’t forget to tell them what a great summer you had.

Day Camp Cindy Loveland
We had 26 day camp scouts this year.  Every scout had a parent volunteer one day of the week, so 26 parents would also be involved.  We do 7 rotations per day in camp, including BB’s, archery, sports, crafts, camp skills (this year we did survival and cooking and learned to make box ovens one day), a rotation that included the jungle theme and nature.

GoshenYvette Bradle

There are lots of unfilled volunteer positions.  Scouting only works when we all help out

(each family is required to fill a volunteer role).

·         Sibling Activity Table…

·         Newsletter

Details on the positions are located on the website www.pack1199.org under the ‘Role Sign-up’ tab. Updates will be posted after our Pack Meeting on 9/27.

Summer Activities Coordinator - Liz DeCastro

A special thanks to Liz for coordinating or assisting with all of the great summer events and arranging for special discounts at Imagination Stage.

Many of our scouts have earned the Individual Summertime Pack Award.  Den leaders have been collecting the information & pins will be given to den leaders at a Pack meeting. See your den leader for more information.

Frederick Keys Sleepover John Frick

For the Frederick Keys sleepover we had 12 Scouts & Parents.  The scouts enjoyed running the bases after the game as well as fireworks.  After our tents were set up we enjoyed the movie Up on the jumbotron.  The movie ended around 1:00 AM & we were awakened at 6:45 AM to begin breaking camp.

Here are some more fun activities that happened over the summer.

·         Rocket Launch - Andy Bluestein
Pack Picnic & Promotion Ceremony -
Evan & Pam Homan

·         Squirt Gun Battle/ Ice Cream Social Kim Nonato & Susan Field

·         Scouting On The MallMark Brady

·         Country Cone Fundraiser / Popcorn Kickoff Kim Nonato & Susan Field

·         Campfire & Flag Retirement Ceremony Mark Brady

·         Sugerloaf Mountain Hike - Michael Oxenford  The hike drew about 15 kids & 25 parents.  Special thanks to Michael Oxenford  for leading.  Liz DeCastro especially enjoyed finding a millipede on the way and climbing on the stone observatory on the top!

POP!  POP!  POPCORN!

We are really selling some popcorn this year. So far we have sold over $5000 and have taken more than $1000 in donations & that only includes the store front sales. We are waiting our next popcorn order to arrive Sat & will be ready to book some more sales where Chocolate will be available.

Our Popcorn Kernels, Barbara Smith-Brady & Kim Nonato, have been hard at work on our popcorn sales.  The next & LAST popcorn order deadline is November 10th.   All scouts are expected to sell $150 of popcorn or pay the $100 popcorn opt-out fee.

There will be a several Popcorn Sales in October at Grocery Stores in our area.   All scouts who work the store sale will be credited towards their $150 quota.  Credit amounts will be equal to the total sales divided by the number of hours each scout sold.   Please watch your e-mail for info on store sale sign-up & popcorn deadline & delivery dates.

Successful Join Scouting Night

Our year got off to a fantastic start at our Join Scouting Night this month. 17 prospective new scouts will join our pack.    Many thanks go out to Diane Vellandurai (Membership Chair), Susan Field, the entire leadership team, & our Webelos II scouts for helping out with the event. It was a huge success!

We are still forming the new dens & recruiting den leaders. If you are willing to be a co-leader or assistant leader for your sons new den, please e-mail Diane Vellandurai. If you know of a boy that would like to join Scouting, please have the family contact Diane.

Balloon Release Notes:

We’d like to share one of our Balloon Release stories. This balloon was found about 70 miles away….

First_name: Sherri

Last_name: Vaeth

E-mail: …………@gmail.com

Message: Hi, I found a balloon on Sept. 24th, while kayaking on the Potomac River, near George Washington's birthplace. This is in Westmoreland County, Virginia. I was exploring a deserted area of beach and found your balloon washed up on the beach. The name area said Hi, I'm "J" in the "2nd grade". I'd like to see the final plot of where your balloons landed, if you would put them on your website." Good luck with your endeavor!  Sherri
